It's a very cool and imperfect mod. But then again, I take all meter mods to be imperfect, due to lag or range limitations during various encounters. As long as it's consistently imperfect, it seems to do the job.
If I'd never heard of this mod, I would not have been quite as ready to give Disc healing a try. I'll be honest. I like to have SOME inkling of what my spells are doing. I don't need to know that my bubbles are absorbing 6 billion dmg (though that would be really, really cool). But I'm not sure, off the top of my head, how much damage each of my bubbles DOES absorb, and I'm crappy enough at math that when multiples of an unknown number enter the picture, I get this squirrel in the headlights look and begin shivering.
So I wound up hunting the mod down and downloading it, using it with my Recount. And I love the darn thing.
If I look at Recount and notice myself at the bottom, I can go "Oh my God, I'm doing half the healing the next lowest Healing Done healer has managed. I'm casting constantly. What else can I DO?!" Once the bafflement and wonder has passed, I click a few settings over to take a look at my Guessed Absorbs. It gives me a nifty number I can add on to my Healing Done, and find myself squarely in the middle of the pack for Healing Done, and still remaining quietly at the bottom of Overhealing Done.
Now, I understand that none of these numbers are entirely accurate. But they're consistently inaccurate, and they give me an idea of where I stand. And middle of the pack for healing done with minimal Overhealing is a beautiful place to be for a Tank/Offtank/variousTanks main or off-healer.
Even with the Druids tearing up the Healing Done (and doing some unspeakable things to Overhealing Done), Guessed Absorbs allows me to feel like a useful part of the raid.
Some people swear by Disc Priests, but I'll be honest - I've only raided with one Disc Priest ever, before (all the others were Holy, or very rarely Disc, enough so that I never had a feeling of how they worked... and now I really have no one to ask about it except myself, my Tank, and my lowly meters). Other players think Disc Priests suck (some of them are fellow Disc Priests, though I'm guessing that those Disc Priests are the ones forgetting to use their bubbles and Penance).
As time goes on and I'm figuring out how my spells and spec fit best into our raiding roster, I'm feeling more comfortable with my not-quite-so-new spec. I might pull Holy back on as my secondary spec, though it would probably be ideal for me to wait til 3.3 hits so I can taste the changes to Shadow before dropping it again.
