A Disc Priest & Two Trees Walk into a Bar

...the raid says, "Ouch."

Lately, Tuesdays have become my guild's night for 10 man Hard modes. Last night we wound up with just enough healers online, just enough tanks online, and more than enough DPS online to cobble a raid together. That said, we had two Resto Druids and myself as healers, and we were sending interested looks at ToC.

ToC was having none of it.

I'm not really sure what we could have done differently, with the people we had. The way our spells work (together or not) just wasn't enough to keep our tanks up reliably with that spike damage. When one of your tanks takes about 40k in damage over 1/3 of a second, you sort of have to just boggle and nod.

We wound up moving on to run a quick ToC normal, and then moved on to hammer away at Uld 10 Hard modes instead.

Which sort of brings me back to where I began on this post - I know that I, as a Disc Priest, cannot alone keep up a ToC Hard mode tank. I need a good bit of help from the raid healer. At the same time, we had two Druids available to us - and Druid HoTs combined with their direct heals weren't enough, with the assistance of one another's HoTs and my own minor assistance. I'd heard years ago that Druid heals are phenominally slow, and last night's experience sort of underscores that impression.

Is that the case? I don't know the Druid class inside and out, but I know I've seen Druids assigned Main Tank healing duty in the past. Granted, perhaps that was on encounters we outgeared enough to make it a viable option, but I think it may have also been due to just using what we had available to us once the raid had been assembled. (Mind you, I've also heard the idea that a Holy Priest can't raid heal ToC and that you needed a Druid to do so, which makes me grind my teeth - so I know that everyone has different ideas of what is and isn't possible from the various classes)

Anyway. One day I might get a Druid to read this blog and offer their own insights. Until then, I'll probably stick with wondering endlessly. :)
